About the contest:

2007 University Cartoon Contest on Environment Protection is held this March. It’s the second time China Daily Website, Newscartoon, China Environment Protection Foundation, and China Newscartoon Society has organized such a contest. This year’s theme is Green and Olympic, combining environment protection and Olympics.

China will host a “Green Olympics” in 2008. Organizers want to appeal to all people protecting environment through cartoons. The contest is open to all university students, who are members of the society. They will show their passion for the games through their cartoons.

In 2006, more than 100 universities and colleges took part in the contest, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Central Academy of Fine Arts and China Academy of Art.

The annually held contest shows how talented the students are and how enthusiastic they are for protecting environment.

Newscartoon: New world of cartoons

Newscartoon is hosted by the China Daily Website and was co-launched by the China Journalistic Caricature Society. Since its launch on July 18, 2001, Newscartoon has attracted thousands of cartoonists and illustrators to contribute. The abundance of excellent art collections have turned Newscartoon into an Internet platform where thousands of cartoonists, illustrators and cartoon fans find a perfect place to display their work, communicate online, and learn from each other.

China Newcartoon Society (CNS) is a national news cartoonists association. It aims for uniting cartoonists working for press around China to develop news cartoons.

1) There is no limitation of numbers of participant’s submission.

2) Paper submission should not be smaller than 210mm*297mm. Please mark the title, participant’s name, college name, address and other contact information at the back.

3) If you submit your contribution via email, please follow the resolutions:

- 300 dpi (file size no bigger than 2MB)

- JPG

- RGB

- longest side of the file should be under 1000 pixels

4) Explanation of paper contributions: names of the work, author and university are necessary, author’s pen name is selective.

Caption of email contribution should be at TXT format.

12. The Jury

1) The jury is made up of famous cartoonists, university professors and experts of environment-protection.

13. Copyrights

1) The organizers reserve the right to refuse entries they consider morally, politically or religiously offensive, as well as work that is considered in contravention of the

2) If the contribution has intellective right or copyright dispute, the organizer will cancel the participant’s entry qualification. Participants must undertake all the consequences. Participants should ensure the organizer not to generate any copyright or other intellective right dispute for the use of the contributions.
